Lauren J. Oliver
Lauren is a coach and organization consultant with 13 years in private industry – Toyota-GM (NUMMI), and Pacific Gas and Electric – and 8 years in internal and external coaching and consulting in US and South Korea. Dr. Oliver was the architect of the training and development system for the Toyota-GM joint venture, New United Motors Manufacturing Inc, and managed the Training department for nearly 10 years. Key programs she developed at NUMMI included leadership and management development, team building, problem solving and continuous improvement, and the Toyota Production System. She designed and ran an organizational survey, capturing 98% of employees’ and management’s input for annual goals and objectives.
As an internal Executive Consultant for PG&E for 4 years, Dr. Oliver did change management, initiating the "Action Forum" model (based on GE’s WorkOut) for cross-functional management-employee teams to make major improvements for safety, quality and cost reduction. Following her work at PG&E, Dr. Oliver provided external consulting in organization development and management development to South Korean as well as US firms. She became an executive consultant for Personnel Decisions International, Inc and headed up the executive coaching function for their San Francisco office, serving HP, PG&E, Cisco Systems, and other Silicon Valley corporations. Now she enjoys a coaching practice offering personal and professional growth opportunities for leaders. Dr. Oliver received her B.A. at Harvard University, and her Ph.D. in clinical psychology at UCLA.
Lauren partners with clients (whether organizations, teams or individual executives) to build a clear picture of their strengths and how these can be applied most effectively to achieve their goals. While assessing the client and organization, she gives clients the models and common language to understand the stages of their own development and to empower themselves to become co-creators of their organizational change initiatives. Lauren’s collaborative style facilitates ownership by the client of their initiatives. Once the assessment snapshot comes clear, Dr. Oliver provides critical event coaching, emphasizing problem solving through getting the facts, reflection on alternatives, design of actionable, innovative and sustainable solutions, with follow-up and continuous improvement. She encourages clients to practice Nemawashi – Toyota’s collaborative planning and decision-making model -- to insure co-development, buy-in and support for new initiatives.
