Bernd Kappel

Bernd Kappel has over 20 years of experience in coaching people who work in an intercultural context or with teams spread out globally. His main focus is on personal and organizational change, and intercultural differences and how to use them to create synergy. Supporting organizations as a consultant and individuals as a coach in order to be clear about goals (life goals, professional goals, project goals) and how to create and maintain adequate processes to reach these goals has become a personally rewarding and professionally attractive commitment for Bernd. Due to his training and experience as a conflict manager and mediator, he is frequently called in as a coach in conflict situations (mostly when the conflict situation arises from cultural differences, as is the case in post-merger situations).

His coaching approach is based on the assumptions and models of positive psychology; systemic thinking, analysis, and questioning; constructivist assumptions and models; and an approach of organizational learning.

Since 1992, Bernd has served as an individual coach and team coach for executives of numerous large corporations, mostly in cross border projects. He has also served as project manager for cross border projects in two large international organizations, and has set up and managed a training and consultancy organization in three countries. In addition, he has held Lecturing positions at several universities, both in Europe and the U.S. Bernd has a Staatsexamen (corresponds to M.A. level) in Political Science, Social Sciences, Germanic Literature, and Linguistics from Stuttgart University, and an M.A. in International Affairs and Latin American Studies from Ohio University / USA (Fulbright Scholar).
